Unfortunate Reminder – Professional Answering Service Talks Hurricane Sandy

Today is Halloween, but instead of celebrating an enjoyable holiday, many of our fellow  Americans are in a professional answering service clean-up mode after Hurricane Sandy devastated large swaths of our eastern coast and sent torrential rains, heavy winds and even deep snow across several states.  Despite advanced weather tracking and numerous warnings, the sheer magnitude of this storm still caught many by surprise.

The Reminder

Adverse events on a large scale do happen with some frequency around the world, but for those individuals directly in the path of this storm (including us!) it feels like one of those ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ events.  It also serves as a stark reminder that we need to have a plan in place – including what to do in a ‘worst-case-scenario’.  For your business, that includes a communications plan so you can be reached by your clients and/or share important information with them, even when it becomes more difficult to do so.

Unprecedented Event

As a professional answering service, we get very busy during severe weather events.  We have supported our clients’ communications needs during floods, blizzards, hurricanes and more, yet I do believe that this particular storm has generated the highest call volumes we have ever experienced in our 50+ years of business.

Final Thoughts

I’ll keep this week’s post short (since we still have a good bit more work to do), but I would like to leave you with this final message:  For those adversely affected by Hurricane Sandy – our thoughts are with you for a speedy recovery.  For those that dodged the bullet, enjoy your Halloween – but don’t ignore the obvious any longer.  Bad things can happen, so be sure you have a plan in place both professionally and personally.  A little bit of planning can make a real difference if and when the time comes to use it.
