Snow Day? Not for the Doctors Answering Service

Snow Day? Not for the Doctors Answering Service

As kids, we all loved snow days.  As adults, it can be a very different story.snow and the doctors answering service  Sure, it canstill be fun if you and your immediate family are  all safe at home when the white stuff starts falling, but that is rarely the case these days.  I talked to 19 different friends in the last few days, each with their own story of how they got caught in a snow storm over the weekend, just trying to get home.

More on the Way…

The snow is falling again as I write this and several more inches are expected.  As an answering service for doctors’ offices and other service oriented businesses, we know all-to-well that snow, especially during the work week, can be extremely disruptive and even dangerous in many cases.

The recent snow and ice events are going well beyond their normal ranges; covering large swaths of the nation with inclement weather conditions.  As a result, several schools and businesses are experiencing delays and closures; and weather related accidents (whether while driving or even simply walking on a slippery surface) have soared all across the country.

How Prepared Are You – Really?

When the weather hits, most people are a bit more prepared these days because they can at least communicate with friends and family via smart phone when they are disrupted by weather.  For service businesses, this can be more of a challenge because inclement weather often means key staff is not available to assist clients or patients.

Think about the following examples and how they are magnified when bad weather is on the way:

  • You’re scheduled for a major surgery for a health related issue.
  • You have young children and your heater goes out during a deep freeze.
  • A water pipe bursts in your home or business just after the start of a major snow storm.

When faced with those situations, you do NOT want to get a recorded message or automated system when you make that call.  You want to speak to a live person.

When People Depend on You, Answer the Call – Whether You’re There or Not

For those that own or manage businesses such as a doctors office, an HVAC service shop, or a plumbing service; answering the call, no matter when it comes in, is a direct reflection on the professionalism and attention to customer service that your business provides.  Weather events will still cause appointment cancellations, delays and other headaches; but by utilizing a quality answering service, you can keep an open line to your clients (or patients) to help manage their expectations and escalate those really urgent messages when necessary.

The Doctors Answering Service Time to Shine

Winter is almost here and the holidays are quickly approaching.  Our philosophy in supporting our own clients is to always be there for them, whether their needs are for after-hours, overflow calls, or full 24/7 support.  As the winter season arrives, many offices plan for reduced staff over holiday hours, but may also have unplanned staff reductions due to inclement weather.  Either way, just keep in mind, when your staff may not be available to take those calls, we consider that our time to shine!
